Book Blogger Hop: June 21st - 27th

The Book Blogger Hop has moved to the Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.  I hope you are able to join me.

This week's question submitted by Elizabeth.

When you are writing your reviews, do you write them as you are reading or wait until you are completely done with the book?

I usually wait until I have completely finished the book to write my reviews.  The primary reason being that how I feel at the beginning of a book is sometimes different how I feel at the end of a book and my opinions of the book change as I read.  I have read books in which I really didn't like the book at the start and by the end of the book I quite enjoyed the book and vice versa.

Book Blogger Hop: March 8th - 14th

The Book Blogger Hop has moved to the Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.  I hope you are able to join me.

This week, Billy asks:

What is your favourite book set in a different country than the one that you live in?

I have a lot of favourite books that are set in different countries other than the one that I live in, but I would have say that I would have to choose Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte would be my favourite and I love the description of the moor that Jane ends up at after she leaves Thornfield Hall.

Book Blogger Hop - March 1-7

The Book Blogger Hop has moved to the Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.  I hope you are able to join me.

This week, Billy asks:

You're going on a long train ride. What books will you bring to read?

If I were going on a long train ride, I would probably bring War & Peace by Leo Tolstoy and Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

Book Blogger Hop - Feb. 22-28

The Book Blogger Hop has moved to the Ramblings of a Coffee Addicted Writer.  This is my first time doing the hop since the move and I hope you can join myself and others in the hop.

Anyways, Billy asks this week (yes, shock, a male book blogger):

Which do you prefer most: a printed book or an e-reader?
While I really like the portability of an reader and the fact that one can read really large books on an
e-reader without making one's wrist sore and can put a lot of books on an e-reader, I have to say that there is nothing like a printed book, technically an e-reader is a printed book, but understanding the context of the question and personally I prefer a book printed on paper, but I am starting to prefer using my e-reader.

#bookbloggerhop (Oct.12-18)

This week, the Book Blogger Hop is going off to Soon Remembered Tales and the question for this week is:
With Autumn upon us and Halloween drawing near, what books remind you of fall? What ones do you enjoy reading that are about autumn?
I don't really have one book that I read that reminds me of fall, but I tend to read books that are darker or set in areas that are cooler.  I basically read a lot of classics during this time period.

The question for this week is: What hyped up book do you think was not worth all the hype?

For me it was The Night Circus.  I found that it was going back and forth quite a few times during the course of the book and felt that by the end that I really didn't care for the book at all.

#bookbloggerhop (Aug. 31-Sept. 6)

This week, Crazy for Books asks:

What is the one book or series you are dying to see turned into a movie or tv series?

This a little hard because a lot of the books I have read have been made in movies already and there are at least  a few series that I would like seeing made into movies.  But I would think that the one series that I would like to see being made into a movie would probably be the Tea Rose series.  Partly because it is of a similar vintage as Downton Abbey, of which I am a huge fan of, but also because I have read all the books in the series and I think visually it would be an amazing series of movies.  But I also think that the Gemma Doyle series could also be an amazing series, just because it would be very eery and spine tingling.  Who doesn't like a good ghost story?

#bookbloggerhop (August 17-23)

This week, Crazy for Books asks:

What is the one genre you will NEVER read?
There are probably a couple, but I would probably have to say erotica.  I understand why people would read it, but I just don't see the appeal.

#bookbloggerhop (Aug 3 - 9)

Book Blogger Hop

This week, Book Blogger asks:

When a book goes "viral", do you rush out to read it like everybody else, even if its not your typical genre?
Depends on the book; some I might do that but for the most part I don't really do that.  I just find that some of the books that go "viral" are a tad over-hyped and therefore not worth to read it.  I usually wait until I have seen a number of reviews before giving the book a try.  Although a price drop does influence on my purchase.

#bookbloggerhop (July 20-27)

Book Blogger Hop

This week, Crazy for Books asks
What's the ONE super-hyped book you'll NEVER read?
Probably the Shades of Gray series.  There are several reasons for this.  One has to do with the content of the book and the fact of the matter I have never been interested in that sort of book.

Book Blogger Hop

This week, Crazy for Books asks:

How long does it take you to read a book?

It really depends on the book. Of course there is usually extra incentive when I have a book from the library that I can only have for two weeks.   If I solely concentrate on that particular book, it can take me a couple of days to read it, that's if I really enjoy it.   But if I am reading a bunch of books at once, it probably can take me up a week or two to complete them.  Then of course are the books that I just can't seem to get through....

Book Blogger Hop

This week, Crazy for Books asks:

Do you have a keeper shelf for books you loved?  What are the books on the shelf and why?

No I don't have such a shelf.  I know which they are and can locate them pretty easily.

#bookbloggerhop (June 22-28)

Book Blogger Hop

This week, Crazy for Books asks:

Do you immidately write a review upon finishing a book or do you wait and write multiple reviews at once?

I usually write immediately write my review, as I usually can recall what I thought of the book better immediately after reading a book, rather than waiting to write.  I also find that with the way that I write my book reviews, it would dog the people that subscribe to my blog, either through the RSS feed or through email.

#bookbloggerhop (June 15-21)

Book Blogger Hop

This week, Crazy for Books asks:

Do you belong to book club, either online or in real life?

Yes, I belong to both forms, although my participation with online book clubs is rather spartan.  My real life book club meets four times, with September being the start of the year for the book club.  It contains myself and three other friends from high school and we have been doing it since September 2007.  We have read modern novels and also more classic type fiction.  We have had a power outage during one of meetings and we have had the host of the meeting doze off while watching a video (I was really, really tired).  Some of the books weren't exactly favourites but they definitely gave us a lot to discuss.  And some we really enjoyed and one time I completely forgot what book we were reading (I got the right author, but the wrong book).

#bookbloggerhop (May 25-31)

Book Blogger Hop

This week Crazy for Books asks:

How do you handle the writing of a negative review?

Honestly, I just write it.  I know that I might turn some people off with the writing from a negative review, but I want my reviews to reflective of who I am as an individual and if I don't like a book, I will mention that.  Its not that I don't care for the book, its just that I don't like the book and if the book review is negative, I personally don't care.  And yes, I do understand that a negative review will impact on my readers, but when I write a review,  I like to be honest.

If an author doesn't like the review, then I figure they have to grow thicker skin.  Not everything I read and review am I going to like and authors need to realize that fact.

#bookbloggerhop (May 18-24)

Book Blogger Hop

This week, Crazy for Books asks:

How many books do you own?

I probably own somewhere between 250 and 300 books.   Some have been read and most haven't, but I am hoping in the next few years I can read them and because some of them I really don't need to have, I am going sell them off to a second-hand store and get some much needed cash (I don't tend re-read a lot of my books).

#bookbloggerhop (May 11-17)

Book Blogger Hop

I haven't done this awhile, but when this popped up on my email feed, I knew I had to do it (I apologize to those of you who follow me on twitter and facebook for the multiple blog posts; Mondays can be a heavy blog posting day).

This week, Crazy for Books asks:

Who is your favourite book character?

Honestly, I don't know if I do have a favourite book character, but if I had to choose one it would have be Emma Woodhouse.  The reason being is that while she has the best of intentions of doing good for her friends, she messes things up and has things blows up in her face, but somehow she keeps trucking on and learns from her mistakes, almost like the rest of us.

Hope you have a good rest of the week and I hope to post something up on Friday, when the new hop is available.

Friday Follow (Dec. 23)

Friday Follow asks this week:

Q:  If you had to spend eternity inside the pages of a book which book would you choose and why?

This is a hard one, as I can think of a number books/series that I would like spend time in but if I had to choose one book/series it would have to be Pride and Prejudice.  While I understand that a number of people would pick this book for probably the officer's uniforms and the outfits that donned our favourite female characters during the course of the book, but it would have to be the fact that the people that moved in these circles were very fascinating people and would just be fascinating to listen to, even though some of them seem very shallow and self-serving.  It would just be interesting to hear the various things that we didn't hear about during the course of the story.

Follow Friday (Dec. 16)

Follow Friday asks this week:

Q: When you’ve read a book, what do you do with it? (Keep it, give it away, donate it, sell it, swap it..?)

I assume you mean one of the books that I own, so if that were being the case, I mostly keep my books, depending on the book.  I have swapped a few of my books and I have also donated some of my books and have sold some of them, but mostly I keep them, even the double copies of books I currently own.

Follow Friday (Dec. 9)

Follow Friday asks this week:

Q: Keeping with the Spirit of Giving this season, what book do you think EVERYONE should read and if you could, you would buy it for all of your family and friends?

I would probably pick Unbroken because it appeals to a large range of readers.  And if I could, I probably would buy a copy for all my family and friends.
