Saturday Snapshot (Aug. 8)

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by West Metro Mommy Reads.

This past Tuesday my dad and I went on go-carts that go down a hill.  The carts are non-motorized and were really fun.  My mom took photos of my dad and I as we went down.  Here are some photos of me on the go-karts.

Being pulled up by a tow-rope

Starting to come down the course

A little further down the course

A little more down the course

Concentrating on the next corner

Closing on in the end of the end of the course

I really enjoyed the activity and went again today and had even more fun on the course.

Saturday Snapshot (May 16)

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by West Metro Mommy Reads.

Every now and then, I spend some time with my mom's parents on Saturday mornings.  More often than not, we spend sometime at their favourite spot: Tim Horton's.   Now if you live in Canada or have spent any time here, you know what I am referring to.  The chain has also expanded into the United States under the banner Tim Horton's Cafe and Bake Shop.  I took this photo this morning, while my mom and I (not pictured) were enjoying sometime with them.

Normally I don't share photos of my family here for a number of reasons, but I thought this would be an exception, as it has been shared a lot by me online.  I got this photo from my dad on Tuesday evening and I was quite surprised that I had never seen this photo. It is a photo of my Grandma Wiebe holding me in her last days, flanked by my cousins Sherida (darker hair) and Lorelle (blonde hair).  I never really knew my grandma, as she passed away when I was a little over six months old at the time.  It will be a photo I will definitely treasure.

Saturday Snapshot (Dec. 21)

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by West Metro Mommy Reads

It was a snowy day here in the southwestern corner of BC.  And if you live in either the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island or somewhere in the Pacific Northwest, you can imagine that it was a bit of a crazy day.  And it was.

But in the midst of all that craziness, one can get some amazing photos.

Here is a photo of the large tree outside of the place that I work at:

I loved how the snow gracefully balanced on the branches; it was so much more beautiful in person, but I think I captured it well.

And this one was taken from my balcony this afternoon:

These two trees looked so gorgeous this past fall, with their flaming leaves, but now they look just as gorgeous with the snow gracefully on their branches.

Hope you enjoyed my snow pictures and I hope you have a Merry Christmas :)

After work one day after work, I saw a ring around the sun.  Because this is highly unusual in my neck of the woods, I took a photo of it.  Took it with my iPhone.

Later: I have done some some research and this commonly called a 22° halo.  Never look directly into into it, as they are really bright.  It is formed through refracted light and is more commonly formed around the sun.

Because it was the long weekend here in Canada last weekend (Victoria Day), I went to spend sometime at my parents place near Kamloops, BC at a ski resort called Sun Peaks.  Its a nice little place that fills up with tourists from around the world during the winter and summer months (there are a lot of Germans who come for the ski season due to a German hotel chain having a hotel there).  Its filled with fun shops and lots of places to have coffee.  The nice thing about the place is that there are no big chain stores in the area (that means no Tim Hortons (if you are Canadian or spend time in Canada, you know what I mean) or Starbucks or the like, but they do have a couple of stores that have locations in Kamloops), but they do have a Delta hotel and a number of other chain hotels in the centre of town, along with the numerous townhouses and homes that are available to rent (sadly, my parents place is no longer available for rentals).  The time between the end of the ski season in April and the end of June is the shoulder season for a lot of the employees and a lot of the shops are closed until then.  There are walking trails around the village and in the summer months, you can go on the chair lift to do some hiking. There is also a pool for kids in the afternoon and an ice cream shop.  They also have a farmer's market on Sundays, which one can get fresh fruits and veggies during the summer months and due to the location, we often can get stuff from the Okanagan (usually cherries and peaches) in the last few weeks and also fresh berries (strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries) from the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.   It really is a relaxing place to be during the year.

After visiting my parents and helping them set up the income suite, I came back home and look forward to the summer months that I will be there.

Have a great weekend.

If you are wondering what that is, its the Starbucks Gold Card and I got mine this past week.  I am looking forward to using it sometime soon.

Today I chose a photo that my dad took on our only Christmas away from home when the four of us went to Mexico in 2004.  This photo was taken at a resort near Puerto Vallarta.  As you can see, I didn't go far without having a book in my hands.  Enjoy.

Took this at Bouyton Canyon near Sedona, Arizona.  Took this from the parking lot after my family and I took a hike up onto one of the rock areas where one could look into the canyon area.  Was taken about a month ago.

Took this photo with my iPhone as I was on my way to work a couple of weeks ago.  Thought it was interesting.

Took this photo from my deck after I got up on Monday morning.  And yes I did go to work that morning.

Took this photo this past week as the sun was lowering in the sky.  I hadn't seen the sun do this for quite a few months, as it has been grey for a large portion of that time.  The photo was taken about 3:30 pm and the sun left the wall within the half-hour.

Watching a little Canucks/Bruins action this morning (10 am pacific is a little too early for a NHL game!).  Go Canucks and squish the big bad Bruins.

I took this photo with my iPhone while I was watching a Canucks game this past Wednesday.  That slip of paper is one of the many slips that I get in my library materials and end up using as bookmarks; think that one was from an item that I had just returned.  As you can see I was multi-tasking: reading Harry Potter, watching the hockey game, drinking a can of Coke, perusing (aka stalking) Facebook and also listening to the Harry Potter book I am currently reading. And all I wanted was a photo of my fireplace.

Saturday Snapshot (Dec.24)

Saturday Snapshot is hosted by Alyce @ AT Home With Books.

I took this photo with my new phone (gave myself a nice pressie a few days early and my old cell had a number that was sticking).  My mom decorated the tree and this will be the last year that she will put my sister and mine decorations onto the tree.  And as usual it looks very nice and very homey, especially with the presents below (and on) the tree, waiting to be opened in less than 36 hours from this post.
