I have been on a bit of a book buying spree.  One was a book that I had pre-ordered back in the spring because I knew I would get a better deal by pre-ordering it than if I bought it when the book came out. And in addition to the paper books that I purchased, I also purchased a few e-books as well, one of which is being released in October.

Due to the spending splurge that I had a couple of weeks ago, I got a 10% off card that I had a limited time to use the card.  So on Wednesday after work, I went back to the Chapters location in Langley and bought a couple more books.  And instead of spending about $42, I spent about $28.  And here is what I got:

I guess with my previous purchase I have my reading basically set for the summer.

I went on a bit of book buying binge this past weekend.  Never discount me and good deals that are being offered at the book store (this one was buy $40 or more at the store, not online, and get a $10 gift card from the store to be used at a later date; I won't say how much I spent, but it was definitely over $40).

So on Saturday afternoon, I went to the store and purchased about 5 books in addition to the 2 that I had just received on Wednesday from Amazon (The White Queen and Bring Up the Bodies).  So without further ado, here they are:

I had a good haul over the last week and here is what I received:

• Pioneer Girl was a birthday gift from my parents that was a few weeks belated (I have already the book)
• The Dead in Their Vaulted Arches was something I was looking at for a few months before the trade paperback came out (I only get the trade for this series so it means a delay in getting the book and probably will read it in the summer)
• Such a Pretty Face is a bookclub read that I probably should read in the next few weeks.

I received a couple of books from my family and also gift cards to ChaptersIndigo totaling $60, of which I purchased a paperback set of the Harry Potter books (I do have all the books, but not a complete set; in fact I have 3 different copies of The Goblet of Fire).

The books I received was Emma by Alexander McCall Smith (part of the Austen project; got this from my sister; seems we like giving each other Jane Austen bookish things; I gave her Jane Austen Cover to Cover) and Stone Mattress by Margaret Atwood from my parents.

Maibox Monday (Aug. 11)

I bought a book for TuesBookTalk, a group I belong to on Goodreads for a discussion that we are doing there for this particular book. I had borrowed the book from the library this past spring, but hadn't gotten around to reading it and because there wasn't a lot of e-copies of the book from the library, I purchased the book.  I have heard a lot of mixed reviews for the book from reviewers, but having heard the story prior to reading the book and having heard of Sarah Grimke prior to this (heard about her on The African Americans: Many Rivers to Cross, which aired during the fall of 2012 on PBS), I know that what I am reading is a fictionalized account and realize to take the book with a grain of salt.

This past week, I went to a local bookstore with one book in mind and was able to find it.  I am needing to read this book for my bookclub this coming fall and from what I have heard about the book, I am looking forward to reading this one.  

I am hoping that its as good as I have heard that it is and am looking forward to reading it (I hope to read it fairly soon).

Purchased an ebook that was mentioned on a podcast that I listen to.  Basically its four individuals who discuss a couple of books that they have read each month and record the session that they discuss the two books that they have selected.  One of the books that was selected for July I was able to get through the library and the other I purchased as an ebook:

I hadn't heard of this book prior to the podcast episode in which they selected the book.  If you are interested in hearing what they thought of the book, you can subscribe to Hear...Read This! through iTunes.  The book is a short book; its about 100 pages.  The other book that was selected was Levels of Life by Julian Barnes.

 I pre-ordered a couple of books that I had heard about through a couple of the podcasts that I subscribe to and sounded like something that I would like to read.

I don't know in what order I heard about each of the books, but I am pretty sure I heard about Mrs. Hemingway first through You Wrote the Book!  But in any case they seemed like books that were perfect for summer reading.  Both of the covers just evoke summer and I am looking forward to reading them.

I received an email from an assistant marketing manger with PenguinRandomHouse and was given the choice of three or four books that I could request from them.  It came on Wednesday, resulting in a drive to a FedEx office about an hours drive from where I live.  Here is what I got:

The book came with all the packaging that you would see in the store and I am hoping to get around to it sometime soon.  Its not available in stores at the moment, but is expected to be out on May 13, 2014.

Got a number of the books that I had ordered on the gift card that I had purchased the e-books that I purchased last week.   A couple of them I received last Monday evening in a nice big box; the last one I picked up at the post office kiosk on Sunday morning.  Here is what I received:

I received Winter's Tale and The Goldfinch (along with the movie version of The Help) in a big box and have been reading Winter's Tale for most of the week (I borrowed the audio version of the book a few days earlier from the library and don't think I could be as far if I wasn't also listening to the audio at the same time).  I picked up Runaway on Sunday morning (thank goodness Canada Post has postal outlets in stores or I probably wouldn't have gotten till this afternoon).

I should get one more book in the post in the coming days, at least that is what the tracking information I have says.

I had some money left on a gift card that I received for Christmas, so I bought a few ebooks.  A couple of them are classics and one of them is a movie that is coming out this March.

Got a bunch of books for Christmas (I requested each of them).  The bottom two were from a secret Santa exchange on Elfster and the top book was from my parents.

I hope to read each of them during the next year (sorry about the quality of the photo; it was done with low light and I probably was a little too close to the books).

I should have posted this last week, but for some reason I didn't, but in any case I got the latest paperback copy of the Flavia de Luce series written by the wonderful Alan Bradley.

I hope to read it in the new year, but the sad thing is that I am going to have to wait almost another year in order to read the next book in the series, since I am only reading the paperback versions, but I guess that gives me more time to read other books during the course of the year.  Till my next book purchase.
